I began Lovejoy Bakery in June of 2019 because I loved the joy that baking gave me and wanted to share my creations. Little did I know, that it would give me so much in return. The bakery has allowed me to weave together, my passion for art, my love of plants and animals, my most cherished memories from my childhood and my new found love of math and science. Who would have thought those word problems in math would finally come in handy!
My first food memories are of baking with my Grandmother. Among other things, one of my favorite jobs was to add ingredients to the stand mixer when prompted. I was rewarded with a batter covered beater to lick for my efforts. My favorite of all was her vanilla cake. It is the inspiration for my plant-based version of vanilla cake and I can still remember the taste.
Baking wasn’t my first love. I much prefered cooking over baking. It was hours in professional kitchens, getting stuck with the baking tasks that I learned a true appreciation, and love for baking. The measuring, weighting, strict instructions along with the waiting game intrigued me . What used to be chore, became a challenge, and I’m having a blast challenging myself and bringing people joy.
My mission is simple, create delicious and beautiful cakes that celebrate all life.
I specialize in artisan custom cakes, cupccakes and other desserts. All cakes are hand made, one at a time. I will work with any allergens you may have and even special diets as much as possible. I’m always seeking new flavors, new combinations and different ways to make a product that tastes fantastic. Please feel free to inquire about any ideas you have that I can make come true!
I’m a native Houstonian and I moved to Austin to attend The Univeristy of Texas and received my undergraduate degree in painting and drawing . Later I attended graduate school at Stephen F. Austin State University and received a Master’s Degree in sculpture and jewelry.
After many jobs and careers, I attended The Natural Epicurean Culinary School to further my knowledge and skills in vegan and vegetarian cooking and baking. I currently reside in East Austin with my husband (and high school sweetheart) and our daughter who is headed to California for college in the fall. When I’m not baking, I enjoy antiquing, growing flowers and vegetables in my garden, and walking the trails of Town Lake.
